Etsy allows 13 tags — use all 13. Mix long-tail phrases (3-4 words) buyers actually search. Avoid single words like "blue". Think "blue ceramic coffee mug 12oz". Tags + title + first image alt text drive 80% of Etsy search rank.
Etsy pushes your listings on Google/Meta and takes 12% of the sale. If 40% of your sales come from offsite, your effective fee jumps from 9.5% to 14.3%. You can opt out — but you lose traffic. Model both scenarios before deciding.
